By the mid-1970s, Whirlpool Corp.’s initial international investments had started to pay off. The company was shipping up to a million units overseas every year, including to Australia through a partnership with Malley’s Ltd. By 1972, Whirlpool Corp.’s joint venture Brastemp became the largest manufacturer of home appliances in Brazil. And in a series of purchases from 1984 to 1990, Whirlpool acquired the remaining stock in Inglis Limited, previously known as John Inglis Co. Ltd., solidifying its presence in the Canadian market.
