Because of John Platts’ experience as a manufacturing worker, he was uniquely qualified to deal with one of the era’s most contentious issues: labor relations. The 1960s ushered in a period of unrest within Whirlpool and the industry at large. Platts knew the value of Whirlpool Corp.’s people and set standards for working conditions and wages and benefits that were on par with or above industry standards. These measures helped foster an environment of integrity and respect that Whirlpool continues to uphold today.
